Can i rebuild a HD with the system?

I have a 35HD-DUAL-NAS-E unit WITOUT the hd system. I need to try install a system in a empty HD (sata or ide).



How can i make it?



Anybody have a "clean" snapshot of the harddisk with the Operate System (working)?

I have the same situation & can't be sure if my raid is ok.

Both drives are green.

BUT under "basic mode", while both disks' status is "raid used",and health is PASSED - under TYPE one says ext3 & the other none.

DID U FIND A SOLUTION FOR THIS ?

DID YOUR RAID HOLD AFTER THIS SITUATION ?

I have lately installed the newest firmware, and I can't see many differences - except that the "error reporting" option is now gone. Transfer speeds are as slow as always. And telnet login is only available for a few seconds during boot.

Anyway, I telnet'd into the NAS box with the new firmware, and ran the suggested commands - unmount, e2fsck, mount again. And that seems to have fixed my issue! The NAS is working well now (even spindown is working!).

There is still one weird thing though. In the Maintenance/RAID Setting page, everything looks OK, with the green checkmarks, and it says "RAID system is in normal operation".

But in the Maintenance/Disk Utility page, both disks' status is "raid used", and health is PASSED; BUT - Type is "ext2" for /dev/hda, and "none" (!!!) for /dev/hdc.

What does that mean?!? Is the RAID array still working? Or is data being written on only one disk? I remember both used to be "ext2", why can this have changed?

No need to edit passwd file... root password is same as admin's! I just didn't tried that... noob move

Thanks for the hint, I'll try that. Although seems strange that I can alter /etc/passwd file as Admin user, as I remember I got read only permission on that file and owner is root. I'll check into that!



Anyway, I tried to install mldonkey server for mrt (found on embedded devices) but installation is a bit tricky, it stopped rTorrent service and didn't create any webadmin page to enable it but I found a work-around.

I installed and then uninstalled it, after that it disappears from web admin services page listing but all installation files are still there in (/usr/bin/mldonkey or something like that), and transmission is working again... now I'm able to launch mldonkey from telnet and use it with sancho.

In the first link the user says "The NAS has a hidden menu to enable telnet. This helps a lot to make tests."

I guess I'll have to find out which page he refers to, given that I can't access it by ssh atm. Ssh access will open a new world.



For the specs, these are the only that I found on th Verbatim user guide :

Hi, I just bought this NAS from Verbatim and installed into it Transmission client for the MRT nas, it works flawlessly! Service installation file structure is the same.

Can this be a compatible storlink nas device? I can't open the device to double check cause it's brand new and don't want to invalidate warranty.

After a restart the NAS decided to - REBUILD THE RAID (one of the disks wasn't there & rebuild started).



Now the RAID is OK.



Yet - before both drives "Type" under Basic Mode were "none" & now one of them is "ext3".



ANYONE / GURUS/ EXPERTS...



Is this normal OR should I expect troubles soon ?

have you experienced how FTP transfers, even in local LAN, are really really slow? Max transfer speed I can see is usally aronund 2/3 Mps.



I noticed that each FTP transfer is slow 'by its own', that is if I transfer 1 or 2 or more files at the same time, each of them reaches that 2/3 Mps embarrassing speed.

In other words:

file A -> 2/3 Mps

---------------------------

file A -> 2/3 Mps

file B -> 2/3 Mps

---------------------------

....

---------------------------

file A -> 2/3 Mps

file B -> 2/3 Mps

file C -> 2/3 Mps

file D -> 2/3 Mps





So it's more convenient transferring more file at one time that one after one.





Moreover , even 'Windows' transfers, that is drag 'n' drop of files to/from [PC folder] <--> [NAS folder] are soporific!



Does anyone have a reason for this?

Grazie a tutti per le risposte, e come dice dect....e incredibile ma non mi sono arreso.

Utilizzo un programma che gira in php, per gestire la mia piccola attività.

Adesso per poter utilizzarlo, ho installato wamp sul pc, e cosi funziona.

Purtroppo, ogni volta che devo fare qualcosa, devo accendere il pc, wamp e cosi via e molto scomodo.

Se riuscivo a far girare sul nas, per me era il massimo, perché potevo utilizzare il programma da diversi pc, diciamo dal primo che accendo e il

programma sarebbe sempre disponibile per piu utenti.

Ho provato a installarlo sul nas di un amico e funziona alla grande, pero questo nas a phpmyadmin, e molto semplice da fare.

Per caso, non si può installare sul nostro, il phpmyadmin?

Comunque proverò i consigli vostri e vi faro sapere.

Hi, I Had normal workin RAID configuration, but after one Samsung hdd felll out, I got Seagate hdd as a replacement.

Now, as far as i know, it's not possible to make raid1 combination with same sized hdd but different manufacturer, right?



So I thought to make JBOD from my RAID,

is this possible, without copying all of the data from existing raid hdd?



what does it mean "remove header data" in raid configuration?

i just send an email to MRT waiting for informations like Block size, order etc....

my box just turned up its toes and killed my 4 disc raid array last night. hours looking for a solution and I've decided that the data is pretty much lost and the 35HD Quad is not worth the money i paid for it



It still says one of my discs is faulty, but all 4 check out fine out of the box.



Above all else I needed secure data and none of the fancy bt and media servers and it has totally failed to deliver that function.





think I'm going to look at a synology box

one more question:

1. what software you use to upload files easy into apache server? because if I connect to this NAS as ftp, I don't see any of these system directories where apache is placed...

io, come te, ho installato il firmware TRENDNET ma poii non l'ho più usato. Anzi è lì a prendere polvere e se trovo qualcuno interessato lo vendo. Ho già il 302D che è più versatile (si possono installare applicativi).

NO as far as I can see the admin account is for the webgui only. Logged into the console as admin I don't have permission to do much of anything.



Log in as root the default password is also admin



Yes, stand alone drives will get mounted as ide1, etc. RAID volumes as md1, etc. The RAID functionality is provided by the Linux MD (mutiple device) kernel extentions. USB drives show us as sda1, etc.

later found answer my self - username: root, but password is the same as your "admin" account.

In 2009 I bought a MVix MBox WDN-2000 NAS. I made a bad firmware upgrade and I lost the connection with my NAS. I try many mode to unbrick firmware but the NAS was dead. Now I continoues my little project. I talked a man who made a succesfull recovery with this NAS. I bought a rs232 3V3 TTL USB cable and I made a small panel adapter and JTAG connection in NAS. Now I download the redboot.bin bootloader with Flashtool (cable4). The NAS has a good bootloader and IP address and serial connection. I made a tftp connection. When I download the firmware with bootloader upgrade kernel command (Planex MZK-NAS02SG) I get this message:



Erase flash (0x30220000): Size=5636096 .........................................

............................................. OK!

Program flash (0x30220000): Size=2060225 ......Flash program error!

12: Driver timed out waiting for device

FAILED at 0x30280000: Driver timed out waiting for device



It's a compatible firmware. Maybe the memory has a error. Is there any mode that I reset or format the flash?

I try the flashtool erase top64 but I get a message: failed.
